The Lenovo IdeaPad 330S makes itself likeable for its classy design, solid build, crisp non-glossy display, and adequate battery life, but gives us pause for thought in the performance department.

The prices for the notebooks from Lenovo’s budget IdeaPad 300 series start at about 350 Euros ($407). For this, buyers get a well-designed, portable notebook. Our review device with an Optane-accelerated hard drive, Core i5-8250U CPU and Intel UHD Graphics 620 costs 600 Euros ($698). You can learn what you can expect from the laptop with this hardware configuration in our review.

Despite having a poor display, the IdeaPad 330S is a good laptop, at least until you leave it unplugged for a few hours. There is simply no excusing the laptop's sub-3-hour runtime, especially given this midrange notebook's dim, low-resolution panel. That's a shame, because there's a lot to like about the IdeaPad 330S, from a sleek chassis to strong performance and a comfortable keyboard

Lenovo IdeaPad 330s (15″) is a relatively adequate budget device with a good enough performance and an IPS panel – something rarely seen on a notebook at this price. Moreover, it has upgradable memory via one RAM DIMM and even an M.2 PCIe slot for NVMe SSDs. Of course, if you don’t want to pay a premium price for a notebook you have to settle with some cuts. Usually, manufacturers prefer to substitue the IPS panel with a cheaper TN one. However, here the cost cutting came mostly with the build quality, as there is a little wobble to the base, but still nothing too dramatic.

Lenovo IdeaPad 330s (14″) is one of the more budget 14-inchers on the market. Obviously, you shouldn’t expect anything special from a notebook at this price. If you live by this philosophy, than IdeaPad 330s (14″) is a great device for you. It features an outstanding battery life – on average around 9 hours and a half of web browsing and video playback. We should note, though, that this result came with the 52Wh battery, as there is a smaller – 30Wh one, that most definitely would perform a lot worse.

The Lenovo Ideapad 330S is a simple yet classy looking laptop. It features a slimmer profile than older Ideapad 330 models. The 15.6-inch full HD screen is one of the highlighted features at the price it is offered. While this laptop has commendable build and design, it does not make its mark in performance tests. Graphic designers and gamers may consider this laptop as a secondary machine. It would have been better if Lenovo had bumped the hardware specifications just a bit. For those looking for an everyday laptop, this might be a worthy purchase at Rs. 38,999*.

The IdeaPad 330s-15ARR scores well with its Ryzen 5-2500U APU, fast NVMe SSD, and dual-channel RAM. Its dim and poor battery life inhibit what is a good laptop though.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
AMD Vega 3: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 3 CUs (= 192 shaders) and a clock of up to 1200 MHz.
AMD Radeon RX 540: Polaris based mid-range graphics card with 512 shaders (8 compute units) and a maximum clock speed of 1,219 MHz (according to AMD). Uses the new Polaris 12 chip like the faster Radeon RX 550 (not verified but highly likely) with the slightly improved 14nm FinFET process.
AMD Vega 8: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 8 CUs (= 512 shaders) and a clock of up to 1100 MHz.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 610: Integrated GPU (GT1) with 12 EUs found on some low-end Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series). Same performance as the old HD Graphics 510.

i3-8130U: On the Kaby-Lake architecture based dual core SoC clocked at 2.2 to 3.4 GHz with HyperThreading (4 Threads) and an integrated UHD Graphics 620 graphics card clocked at up to 1 GHz.
i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
AMD Raven Ridge (Ryzen 2000 APU):
R3 2200U: Mobile APU that integrates two Zen cores (with SMT, therefore 4 threads) clocked at 2.5 to 3.4 GHz. The TDP is configurable between 12 to 25 Watt (15 W nominal) and the integrated Radeon RX Vega 3 is clocked at up to 1000 MHz.
R5 2500U: Mobile APU that integrates four Zen cores clocked at 2 to 3.6 GHz. The TDP is configurable between 12 to 25 Watt (15 W nominal) and the integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 is clocked at up to 1100 MHz.
Intel Kaby Lake:
Pentium 4415U: Kaby-Lake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Compared to the Core i3-7100H, the 4415U is clocked slower (2.3 versus 3 GHz), offers less Level 3 cache and a slower GPU. Both a manufactured in the same 14nm process.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

70.45%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
