The long-running Mafia video game series has seen a substantial 82% price drop on Steam. The Steam offer includes all three Mafia games. The promotion is likely tied to marketing efforts for the upcoming Mafia: The Old Country.

After years of waiting, the latest entry into the long-running Mafia video game series, Mafia: The Old Country, is releasing this August. For someone who’s never played the Mafia series before, now is the perfect time to do it, as Mafia Trilogy has recorded a tremendous 82% discount on Steam (linked at the end).

Initially released in 2020, the Mafia Trilogy brings Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Mafia III: Definitive Edition in a single package. Currently, the Mafia Trilogy is only $11.85 on Steam, down a mammoth 82% from $65.97.

Moreover, if you want to play a specific title/titles from the Mafia Trilogy, all the individual games are now just $5.99.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Set in the fictional U.S. city of Lost Heaven, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a major graphical and gameplay overhaul of the 2002 original. The game was released in 2020 to generally positive reviews and is now regarded by many as the best way to play the original Mafia.

Story-wise, Mafia: Definitive Edition drops players in a Martin Scorsese-style mob movie with a beautiful open world, rich story, memorable characters, and a ton of crime. You take control of Tommy Angelo, a taxi driver who turns to a life of crime after becoming part of the Salieri crime family.

The game plays out in a linear fashion, with story missions revolving around driving and shooting sequences. Thankfully, the Definitive Edition refines the somewhat clunky controls of the original 2002 title, so modern players can fully enjoy the game without it becoming a chore.

Moreover, Mafia: Definitive Edition doesn’t need players to have high-end hardware to have a great experience. The official recommended system requirements include:

  • An Intel Core i7-3770/AMD FX-8350
  • 16 GB of RAM
  • A GeForce GTX 1080/Radeon RX 5700

So, a modern, cost-effective CPU like the Ryzen 5 9600X and an affordable Radeon RX 6600/a GeForce RTX 3060 will be more than enough to run the game at 1080p.

Mafia II: Definitive Edition

With the Mafia II: Definitive Edition, players get to experience the 2010 classic with improved graphics and all DLCs. You play as Vito Scaletta, a nobody who’s just left the horrors of World War II for city life in Empire Bay, NY. Heists, gang fighting, and high-speed chases, Vito Scaletta finds himself intertwined in a web of mob crimes in hopes of moving up the ladder.

Gameplay-wise, Mafia II is not much different from Mafia: Definitive Edition. Players can expect linear story missions with a focus on cover-based shooting and driving.

Since Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is just a light overhaul of the original, players can enjoy the game on modest hardware. So, if you have a fairly modern, multi-core CPU and an entry-level GPU, Mafia 2: Definitive Edition should run flawlessly.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition

Released in 2016 for the PS4, Xbox One, Windows, macOS, and the now-doomed Google Stadia, Mafia 3 took the series from the post-WW2 Empire Bay to the fictional open-world of late-1960s New Bordeaux, LA. Mafia III: Definitive Edition on sale includes the main game as well as all post-launch DLCs and bonus content.

Story-wise, Mafia III takes the series in a different direction from the prior two games. Rather than joining the mob, players now fight against the mob. However, this is also where some fans were disappointed, as many people wanted Mafia 3 to be like the prior two entries. Moreover, some people also criticized the missions for being repetitive, complaining that they resemble Far Cry rather than the Mafia games fans love.

That said, the 1960s setting, the rich open world, and enjoyable combat make Mafia III a pretty good game to play, especially now that you can do it for quite cheap.

Finally, just like Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia III: Definitive Edition can also be played using modern low-end/entry-level hardware without any issues.

All in all, the Mafia Trilogy on sale for just $12 is a perfect time to get ready for the August launch of Mafia: The Old Country.
