According to some renders that have surfaced online, OPPO is allegedly preparing a new device. As this phone has a central punch-hole selfie camera, it may not be of the recently-launched Reno series. The leaker Ice universe has also found images of the same phone that indicates a partnership with the Gundam franchise.

Update: With a new press release, OPPO has made its partnership with Gundam official. It will consist of not just one but many phones with the series' branding, in addition to power banks, earphones and other accessories. This new collaboration is being launched to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the show Mobile Suit Gundam. It also mirrors other campaigns OPPO has mounted, wherein it released devices with official Pokemon and FC Barcelona trademarks.

OPPO has already released what may be one of the most innovative smartphone series of the year. The Reno devices have displays with minimal bezels due to their unique shark-fin pop-up front-facing cameras. However, it seems the OEM is not stopping at this alternative to the notch. A leak have emerged that suggests the company is also preparing a phone with a punch-hole camera for launch.

This form of display in these images is unusual in that it is placed along the midline of the phone, and not in one corner of the display or the other as in the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Honor V20. Therefore, it is not clear if the phone in question, should it in fact exist, will also be called a Reno on its release.

The authenticity of this leak has been lent some weight by the prolific tipster Ice universe on Twitter. The leaker has posted some images of a very similar-looking device that he calls an "OPPO x Gundam" collaboration. It seems that the OEM has partnered with this franchise in order to release an appropriately-themed Custom Edition. At present, this potential phone's specs and release date remain unknown.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
