Leaker claims that Samsung Galaxy Ring could be used as a camera remote and is much lighter than expected
Oura remains the go-to for a wearable smart ring, such as its Gen 3 model. Alternatively, Ultrahuman sells the Ring AIR (curr. $349 on Amazon). However, Samsung is soon expected to shake up this niche market with its Galaxy Ring.
For context, Samsung publicly showcased its first-generation smart ring during MWC 2024 in February. While the company has remained quiet about the Galaxy Ring since, it has hinted that the device will be available this summer. Based on recent rumours, the Galaxy Ring will actually receive a full release on July 10 alongside the Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6.
In the meantime, South Korean leaker @RoderSuper claims to have received information about the minimum weight of the Galaxy Ring, which Samsung has not revealed yet. Until now, the Galaxy Ring was rumoured to weigh between 2.3 g and 2.9 g. According to @RoderSuper, the 'lightest model' will come in at roughly 1g. Despite this, the Galaxy Ring is still said to have enough electronics inside of it to control a paired smartphone's camera shutter functionality. Ultimately though, we cannot verify this information at the time of publication. Given that @RoderSuper has somewhat of a mixed record too, we would recommend exercising some scepticism for the time being.
