Leaked Reddit pics allegedly show 2024 Lenovo ThinkPad flagship X1 Carbon G12
With 2023 slowly but surely nearing its end, a new 2024 generation of laptops is on the horizon. One of these laptop lines that will be renewed is the Lenovo ThinkPad series. The most expensive, well known and premium thin and light is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the flagship model of the line since 2012.
Leaks are not something manufacturers like, but they happen nonetheless. In this case, four images have appeared on the ThinkPad subreddit /r/thinkpad under the title "ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2024" - allegedly showing the next gen version of the ThinkPad headliner, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12.
From the images, we can not really say anything about the specs, though it is basically a given that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon will use the next Intel CPU generation Meteor Lake, also known as Core Ultra. What we can tell from the pictures is that Lenovo is finally redesigning the ThinkPad X1 Carbon - the last redesign of this premium Ultrabook happened in 2021 with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9.
One of the first changes you can notice is the new trackpad design. If the leak is genuine, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12 appears to feature the same type of touchpad as the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 (available from Amazon) - a haptic clickpad with integrated buttons for the TrackPoint. For TrackPoint users, the absence of dedicated TrackPoint keys is bound to be controversial, though touchpad users may welcome the enlarged trackpad size.
This is not the only news in regards to the input devices, as Lenovo seems to finally have reversed the FN and Ctrl key to the position they are on most PC laptops. Traditionally, ThinkPad laptops had the FN key on the outside. This redesign also echoes the ThinkPad Z series. The same is true for the position of the fingerprint-reader, which is now part of the keyboard instead of the power button. The dedicated PrtScn seems to make way for it.
On the outside, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 appears to adopt the same reverse notch with a camera bump that is present of the ThinkPad Z series or the ThinkPad X13 Gen 4. Last but not least, Lenovo appears to have removed the X1 logo on the palmrest, putting it only on the outside instead.
When the X1 Carbon 2024 will enter the market is not known at this point, neither are any other specifications. Again: This is an unconfirmed leak, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
