Leaked Core i5-12400F benchmarks show Intel's budget Alder Lake dominating the Ryzen 5 5600X and Rocket Lake i7-11700K in gaming benchmarks
A video creator on BiliBili recently got their hands on a test unit of the Alder Lake Core i5-12400F and shared some remarkable benchmark results up against the Ryzen 5 5600X and the Rocket Lake i7-11700K. The results made it evident that Alder Lake delivers a solid gen-on-gen improvement to IPC, with the budget 12400F handing in a nearly 10 percent higher score than the i7-11700K in CPU-Z's single-threaded test.
Two additional physical cores meant that the Core i7-11700K enjoyed a minor win over both the Ryzen 5 5600X and the 12400F in CPU-Z's multithreaded test. However, elsewhere, especially in gaming workloads, Alder Lake's single-threaded performance pushed the i5-12400F to the top. In both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Counterstrike: GO, the Alder Lake Core i5-12400F delivered better framerates than the Rocket Lake Core i7-11700K.
These scores are particularly interesting since the potentially sub-US$200 Core i5-12400F is set to Intel's cheapest Alder Lake i5. The 12400F ships without any Gracemont e-cores. Despite the core deficit, the i5-12400F seems to leverage Alder Lake's architectural gains to deliver better performance than the much more expensive Rocket Lake Core i7-11700K.
