Leak claims Samsung may furnish the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a familiar periscope camera unit
Samsung’s next Ultra phone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is shaping up to be an imaging beast with rumors pointing to a yet-unreleased 200 MP ISOCELL sensor for the main shooter. However, the rumor mill has been quiet about the secondary camera units of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. As such we don’t know much about the wide angle and the two telephoto units.
Now a new report from Galaxy Club alleges that Samsung is set to reuse the 10 MP 10x periscope unit of the Galaxy S22 Ultra in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. For the uninitiated, the Galaxy S22 Ultra packs in two 10 MP telephoto shooters, one capable of 3x and the other of 10x optical zoom. If true, this won’t be the first time that Samsung decides to reuse an existing telephoto camera since the 10 MP telephoto shooter of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the same as the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Samsung reusing the same periscope unit may disappoint some fans who are hoping for something groundbreaking. But, as repeatedly proved by the Google Pixel, camera specifications don’t tell the whole story. Even if Samsung decides to stick with an old 10x periscope unit, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will likely come with many image quality improvements compared to its predecessor.
