LG 27GX790B B 720Hz Tandem OLED monitor gets a $200 discount
LG's 27GX790B-B gets its first discount, bringing the price down from $999.99 to $799.99. Built around LG Display's 540Hz Tandem WOLED panel, it can hit 720Hz at 720p and up to 1,500 nits brightness for faster and brighter gaming.

Perhaps the biggest drawback of the LG UltraGear 27GX790B-B when it launched was its steep $999.99 price tag. LG has now dropped the Tandem OLED monitor to $799.99 with its first discount, making it easier to consider. That also puts it about $300 below the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, a glossy alternative using the same panel.

720Hz Tandem OLED gaming for $799.99

Built around the new Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, aka 4th Gen WOLED panel, the UltraGear 27GX790B-B brings solid upgrades over previous 3rd Gen WOLED panels. It's brighter, reaching up to 1,500 nits in HDR, up from around 1,300 nits on earlier WOLED monitors. Full-screen brightness has also improved from 275 nits to 335 nits. Moreover, the monitor is now certified under the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 tier and covers up to 99.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Perhaps the biggest highlight here, especially for gamers, is the refresh rate. The UltraGear 27GX790B-B features a 2560 x 1440 resolution with a 540Hz native refresh rate, already faster than the recent 500Hz QD-OLED monitors. However, users can switch to an even faster 720Hz mode at 720p resolution, which is ideal for competitive shooter games. LG pairs the high refresh rate with a 0.02 ms response time and FreeSync Premium Pro for smoother, blur-free gaming.

That said, this monitor may not look as vibrant as the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W with a glossy finish. The anti-glare coating may help reduce reflections, but it can also lower perceived contrast, making black scenes appear slightly gray in well-lit rooms.
