LG patent shows all-display tablet with detachable keyboard
LG remains one of the few leading manufacturers pursuing the tablet form factor in a market dominated by Apple, with Samsung running a distant second. A new patent application filed by the Korean tech titan looks like the company is still interested in the form factor and might even have some high-end aspirations with its next model. The device certainly looks like it has the potential to tackle the competition including the Microsoft Surface and Google’s recently launched Pixel Slate.
As you can see from the images accompanying the patent application, the device is virtually bezel-free at the top and sides. It is also accompanied by an ultra thin keyboard accessory that can be detached from the device. Currently, the only device that LG offers that is similar is the forthcoming Windows 10-powered Gram 14 2-in-1, but that device isn’t a detachable although it is 2-in-1.
Of all the possible operating systems, Android seems the least likely. It would be exciting to see LG power the device with Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 8cx and Windows 10 on ARM; however, its current Gram lineup is focused purely on Windows 10 on Intel, that is the most likely option. Whatever operating system it does end up running, its design makes us want to see it make the light of day.
