LG: New 4K short distance laser projector announced
After LG released the HU80K, an impressive short distance projector, last year the South Korean manufacturer now hopes to continue the success of its predecessor with the HU85L. With the Ultra Short Throw Technology (UST), the HU85L is able to produce a 90 inch image at a distance of just 5 cm from the wall. At a distance of 18cm, this image grows to a proud 120 inches. This means that you can have a cinema-like film experience in your own home without having a not very nice looking projector hanging from the ceiling.
This projector will have 4k resolution, which means that the users can expect a much sharper image than is the case with traditional full HD projectors. Also important for the purchase decision is the brightness with which the projector displays the image onto the wall. At 2500 lumens, this should be sufficient for most cases. According to LG, rich blacks and colors from the full spectrum of the "Wide Color Gamut" color space should perfect the cinema experience.
Also on board is a speech recognition service from LG, which should simplify the operation of the projector. For example, you can tell the projector to switch off after the end of the current movie. However, with this device the microphone is not built into the projector, but into the remote control. Thus, it is not an alternative that can easily be used when the remote control has disappeared into the couch.
However, the projector isn't cheap. The predecessor has already cost over 2000 Euros. This shouldn't change with the successor. The projector will be shown for the first time at this year's CES in Las Vegas from January 8th to 11th.
