LG has announced that it will be porting the UI from its recent Velvet smartphone to older handsets, including the V50 ThinQ and G8 ThinQ. Other eligible devices include the V50S ThinQ, V40 ThinQ, V35 ThinQ and G7 ThinQ. These will most likely be Android 10 updates, though.

LG has confirmed that it will be porting its Velvet UI to older handsets. Announced on its Social LG Korea platform, the South Korean company will be issuing the update as an over-the-air (OTA) download. According to the press release, the following devices will be eligible:

  • G7 ThinQ
  • G8 ThinQ
  • V35 ThinQ
  • V40 ThinQ,
  • V50 ThinQ
  • V50S ThinQ

LG is yet to announce when the six devices will receive the update, nor whether it will be issued globally. However, the LG Velvet UI has already reached the V50 ThinQ in South Korea, so LG has at least begun the rollout process.

With that said, the update will likely only ever be an Android 10-based one for the G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ. Both are over two years old at this point and the G7 ThinQ has already received its allotted two OS upgrades. LG Velvet UI will probably bring Android 10 to the V35 ThinQ at least, as the device currently remains rooted on Android 9.0 Pie.
