LG’s upper mid-range Velvet smartphone with 5G connectivity is set to hit the market in Europe before the end of the month. Europeans in Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Poland will get the device first with other markets including North America set to get the device in the coming weeks. The device sports a fresh ‘3D Arc’ design language and includes other premium features but is powered by Qualcomm’s still powerful, but upper mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset.
The LG Velvet centers on a 6.8-inch P-OLED display that can be morphed into a dual-screen device with the latest iteration of the company’s dual-screen accessory. Additionally, the main display and the dual-screen accessory also support LG’s active stylus in a move that is set to catch the attention of potential Samsung Galaxy Note 20 buyers. In the past has bundled the case and smartphone together in some markets, but on this occasion, it looks as though it might be sold strictly as separate accessory.
LG is also targeting smartphone photography enthusiasts with a new ‘Creator’s kit’ which comprises of software designed to take full advantage of its new 48 MP main camera sensor. These include timelapse control that adjusts slow-motion speeds according to the user’s preference, video bokeh effects and 3D photo effect for portrait shots. The LG Velvet sports a 3.5 mm headphone jack, although there is no mention of any special audio DAC but the company also touts a 3D sound engine for its onboard speakers.
The LG Velvet 5G will come in a single 6 GB/128 GB model with microSD support up to 2 TB. It will come in a range of colors including Illusion Sunset, Aurora Green, Aurora White and Aurora Gray.
