LG Velvet: Leaked information confirms specifications and over ~US$700 launch price for May 7-bound "mid-range" smartphone

Teased over the last few weeks, LG has now confirmed that it will be launching its next smartphone on May 7 at 10:00. Presumably 10:00 Korea Standard Time (UTC+09:00), the Velvet is the first iteration of LG's new smartphone design language. Pitched as an upper-midrange handset, a host of leaked information about the LG Velvet has appeared online in the last few days.

As we previously reported, LG is expected to launch the Velvet alongside a new Dual Screen accessory. Leaked pictures of this have now been published online, courtesy of a Twitter account called @Boby25846908. Reposted on /LEAKS, the attachment resembles the one that LG released for the V60.

Additionally, a screenshot of a South Korean retailer listing has confirmed multiple specifications about the device. As we already knew, LG has paired the Velvet with a Snapdragon 765 and a 5G modem, which it has complemented with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Velvet will have a microSD card reader too, along with a 4,300 mAh battery and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The device will support fast wired and wireless charging, too.

IP68 and MIL-STD certified, the Velvet will measure 167.1 x 74.0 x 7.85 mm and weigh 180 g. According to the same listing, the Velvet will have a 16 MP front-facing camera, with 48 MP, 8 MP and 5 MP sensors on the back. These will be an optically-stabilised primary sensor, an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a depth sensor, respectively. According to a Twitter account called @Kuma_Sleepy, the account that brought the retailer listing screenshot to our attention, the 48 MP camera will be a Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM2 sensor.

Confirmed to be launching in Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset, LG is rumoured to have priced the Velvet at KRW 899,800 KRW. This would put the device at US$730 by current exchange rates, although this likely includes taxes, too.
