LG releases video of new Velvet smartphone, reveals classy, minimalist look
LG has been struggling to gain traction in the smartphone market for some time and has been trying its hand at pretty much everything, including dual screen cases of late. In order to turn things around, the company is trying a new approach apparently abandoning its flagship ambitions for the time being and instead focusing on the premium mid-range segment. Its first entrant is the new LG Velvet which it has been slowly drip-feeding official information about over the past couple of weeks.
It has now followed this up with a full promotional video revealing the design in full and it certainly staking a claim as being one of the most beautiful smartphones we’ve yet to lay eyes on. The new 3D Arc design, as LG calls it, looks super premium with a glossy look with a gradient finish that will be available in four colors. If it wasn’t for the mid-range Snapdragon 765 with 5G radio that video confirms it will be fitted with, you would think that it was targeted at the high-end segment with its use of premium materials.
LG has dropped the rear fingerprint scanner on the rear for a more seamless look with the new signature ‘raindrop’ triple camera array and flash taking focal attention. The main camera is slightly raised with the rest flush with the body in an approach deliberately design to eschew the trend towards large and unsightly camera bumps. On the front, revealed for the first time, is a minimal teardrop camera cut out with an otherwise all-screen approach with minimal front bezels. All that remains to be revealed is the all-important pricing details and regional availability.
