The KT-Pocket KT-R1 has been around for a while now after initially debuting in December 2020. Released in 2023 with a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset and 3:2 display, the KT-R1 has since been overtaken by more powerful alternatives like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (curr. $174 on Amazon). Nonetheless, it seems that KT-Pocket still remains committed to releasing a KT-R1S at some point.
Discussed throughout the last few months on the company's Discord server, an alleged shell showcasing the KT-R1S has now appeared online courtesy of YouTube channel Nittrx. Typically, we would recommend exercising some caution over leaks of his kind. However, the KT-Pocket admin has confirmed that the image is authentic.
Not only that, but they add that the shell is still undergoing optimisations. Thus, final units may differ from the design shown above and below. Regardless, it looks like KT-Pocket is designing the KT-R1S with improved ergonomics in mind compared to the current model.
For instance, the prototype shell features a more sculpted frame than the KT-R1 pictured below it. Moreover, the ABXY buttons and left joystick appear to be positioned in a more natural position without resulting in the KT-R1S growing in height. In fact, the upcoming handheld seems slightly shorter and narrower than its predecessor. Supposedly, the device will be more powerful too, although KT-Pocket has provided further information since last October, when it suggested a MediaTek Dimensity 1100 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be installed.
