Although others managed to deliver the Nougat goodies to older handsets before them, Huawei also has to update its custom interface known as EMUI, so they are not that late after all. Some models already received the beta version of the Nougat-based EMUI 5.0 firmware, and now the Chinese company unveils a list of devices that should get the update later this year.
According to an official Huawei web page that is available only in Chinese for now, the list of Android Nougat-eligible devices includes the following for now: Mate 8, P9/P9 Plus, Honor V8, Honor 8, Nova, Honor 6X, Note 8, as well as the 8.4-inch MediaPad M3 tablet. While not all of them will get the update in the coming weeks, Huawei expects to cover the entire list by the second quarter.
Huawei has been working on the Nougat update for a while, since the update for Mate 8 was leaked back in November - obviously still in an early beta stage. Although its firmware is not pure Android, we expect EMUI 5.0 to deliver all the usual Nougat goodies, including multi-window mode, quick panel and improved notifications, enhanced Doze mode, and so on.
