Huawei unveils Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition with even larger camera module, but fewer cameras

While the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is also available internationally including in Europe, the Mate 80 series is still limited to a few regoins. However, this is not stopping Huawei from already launching a new version of the Mate 80 Pro Max, which was originally announced last November.
Huawei has so far only confirmed a few details about the so-called Wind Edition, which is due to go on sale in a few hours. As a comparison with the regular Mate 80 Pro Max shows, the Wind Edition's camera module protrudes even further from the body, with the lower half of the camera module being perforated. Huawei uses this space and these ventilation openings to install an active fan, which is usually found in gaming smartphones
With a fan, the HiSilicon Kirin 9030 Pro should achieve higher performance under continuous load, but Huawei could also use the fan to cool the cameras, for example to enable longer uninterrupted video recordings. However, the Wind Edition sacrifices one of the four rear cameras in favor of this fan. More details on the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max with 8,000 nits bright tandem OLED display, main camera with variable aperture and secure 3D face recognition can be found in our launch coverage.
