Huawei confirms to be working on a 5G foldable phone, release date still unknown
Right now, most major phone brands must be working on 5G and foldable devices. Some might have confirmed this already, others are keeping it a secret. Obviously, most of these next-gen handsets will deliver "foldable" and "5G" in the same package, but Huawei seems to be the first to confirm this detail.
Richard Yu, Huawei's CEO, has confirmed that the company is working on a foldable 5G during the Mate 20 Pro launch event. When asked about such a device, he said "We are working on foldable phones." and also added "Foldable 5G phones." to make this detail known as well. Sadly, he did not mention any other technicalities, but since Huawei revealed the world's first 5G-capable chipset in early 2018, it is rather safe to assume that the upcoming device will use a HiSilicon Kirin processor.
Some previous rumors claimed that Huawei would launch its first foldable handset in June 2019. Since the company still has to confirm this, we cannot add anything new to those claims. Even if they turn out to be on spot, there is still plenty of time until such a device actually hits the market.
