Huawei Sound X smart speaker images and specifications leaked
Smart speakers will likely be a big seller again this Holiday season, and it appears Huawei is planning on having a crack at the market with its bulky but feature-rich Sound X device. Images and specifications for the smart speaker (see below) have been revealed in a product guide that was originally uploaded to a Chinese social media site. Along with the aforementioned 60 W subwoofers, the Sound X will also sport six 1.5 W tweeters that apparently afford the user a 360° surround sound functionality.
Along with the impressive sound system, the Huawei Sound X also comes with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 512 MB RAM, and 8 GB storage space. There is Bluetooth 5.0 communication onboard and 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) WLAN is supported. The speaker is quite heavy at 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs), but judging by the pictures it has a pleasant and solid look to it (165 mm height, 203 mm diameter). A price of around US$100 has been speculated and the Huawei Sound X is expected to be revealed on November 25.
But, being a smart speaker, the Huawei Sound X also contains six microphones that can hear a voice command from up to 5 m distance (16.4 ft). There are existing privacy concerns over simple devices such as the Echo Dot and that speaker comes from a company that is looked at in a better light in Western markets than Huawei currently is. The leaked guide for the Huawei Sound X is understandably in Chinese, and of course that particular market is favorable for Huawei. But there’s no doubt the manufacturer doesn’t want to be confined to its domestic market, so it will be interesting to see if the Huawei Sound X makes it to international markets and how it fares.
