Reviews for the Huawei MateBook D 16 2022
Until now, the MateBook D 16 has always been an affordable multimedia laptop with AMD CPUs, but the new 2022 model uses an Alder Lake processor from Intel. However, this only runs with the brakes applied, and the price has also increased to 1299 Euros (~$1311).

I can safely call Huawei MateBook D 16 a great solution for arranging a workplace in the office or at home. It has a high-quality large screen, which is suitable for long continuous work, and an excellent keyboard, which is a pleasure to type on. The speedy processor allows you to solve all work tasks, switching between them without delay. Office workers will also appreciate the good camera for video conferencing. Of course, it was not without drawbacks – the autonomy is not as positive as we would like. Although on the other hand, a large diagonal does not imply special mobility, so in stationary usage the issue of battery operation ceases to be so critical.

The Huawei MateBook D 16 represents a surprisingly good blend of features with the midrange i5 model offering a large display, a generous 16GB brace of RAM and enough performance for general computing duties for under RM4,000. If you’re on the hunt for a highly affordable 16-inch workhorse, the Huawei MateBook D 16 comes highly recommended and is one of the most affordable16-inch laptops that you can currently find at this point in time.

The Huawei MateBook D 16 comes with a large and vibrant screen, which is ideal for productivity work as well as watching media. While the design isn’t ground-breaking, it is sleek and sturdy, offering up multiple ports that come in handy during the workday. The 12th Generation H-Series Intel processor is remarkably fast for a laptop at this price, capable of blazing through day-to-day workloads as well as tackling entry-level content creation. But to achieve such a speedy performance, Huawei had to make a compromise to battery life, which won’t be ideal to anyone who plans on working out of reach from a plug socket.

With capable hardware, a comfortable typing experience and an expansive screen, the MateBook D 16 is a very well-rounded laptop. It’s bringing a larger display than most 15in rivals, but packs it into a similar form factor that makes it just as portable. If you don’t need the extra CPU muscle of the Core i7 version, the £750 starting price for a Core i5 model is very tempting indeed. For everyone else, £999 is very competitive against the equivalent Dell and Microsoft Surface models. Anyone looking for a does-it-all machine for work or study should absolutely have this on their shortlist.

A mid-range laptop with a large 16-inch display and separate number pad on the keyboard, the Huawei Matebook D 16 will be very well suited to day-to-day computing, and students will get on especially well with it. The battery life may be a little disappointing but that's made up for in other areas.

The Huawei MateBook D 16 packs a 16-inch screen into an impressively compact chassis. It has a pleasing minimalist design, and a good array of ports. The keyboard is comfortable to use, although the number pad is rather close to the Enter key and there may be a learning curve to avoid mis-hitting it. Thankfully the webcam sits above the screen, rather than in the Fn key row. Downsides include mediocre speakers and a moderate-quality screen -- higher resolution, and perhaps touch sensitivity, would be welcome options. Battery life also disappoints, and all-day mains-free usage may be beyond this laptop. If you need a large-screen laptop for mainstream tasks, then the MateBook D 16 could be a good-value option. However, more demanding media-heavy use cases are not its forte.

Huawei Malaysia has released this year's updated models of the MateBook D series, and this time we got to try the Huawei MateBook D 15 2022. It's a lightweight machine with an 11th-gen Intel Core CPU and can be upgraded to Windows 11. It's nothing impressive, but it's a solid ultraslim laptop for work and maybe watching videos. Plus, it's highly affordable too.

The Huawei MateBook D 16 is a strong mid-range laptop with a big, colorful screen, decent specs, a worker-friendly keyboard with a number pad and a durable build. It’s not perfect, but the problems are what I’d expect from any mid-range system (except for the slightly small trackpad) — a display that’s not overly bright and a mediocre battery life. But for what you get, this is a good laptop and an ideal option for anyone who doesn’t need the best specs but wants a large display experience.

The original MateBook D 16 from 2021 was already an impressive laptop, and this follow-up improves the experience in two key areas. Intel’s 12th-gen CPUs aren’t necessarily better than AMD Ryzen 6000 Series, but they’re a clear upgrade over the Ryzen 4000 chips in the original. Performance is excellent as a result, but without a discrete GPU it’s still not a gaming machine. Huawei has also returned the webcam to its rightful place above the display, upgrading it to a crisp 1080p sensor in the process. Just make sure you’re in a well-lit environment to make the most of it. Other highlights include an excellent port selection, great fingerprint sensor and premium build, but it’s not all good news. Battery life is a real concern (despite decent charging speeds), while I was hoping for more from the display and keyboard. But unless you spend hours away from the charger, none of these are dealbreakers for most people. The MateBook D 16 still delivers a compelling case to be your next laptop – provided you specifically want a 16in device.

Overall, I enjoyed the short time I spent with the Huawei MateBook D 16. As someone that is familiar with this line of laptops, I like the professional design and sturdy build, and I think it is fairly lightweight considering the display size. It comes with the latest Intel processor and Intel Iris Graphics, which should be powerful enough for daily work tasks and even some low-level creative work. Its starting price of £749.99 also seemingly represents great value. While I wouldn’t recommend it for gamers or creative professionals, I think it would work very well for anyone who is hybrid working and wants a reliable laptop that can handle multiple tabs open at once as well as high-resolution video calls.

On first impressions, we think the Matebook D16 will appeal to a lot of people. With so many working between work and home, having a machine with a big display is a godsend that makes it easy to switch between those two environments without having to use a big, external monitor.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
