Huawei Mate V: a case leak purports to confirm the foldable smartphone's design
Foldable smartphones seem poised to enter the mainstream in earnest, mostly in the form of devices like the Galaxy Z Flip3. Huawei is expected to contribute to this trend with a potential upstart, referred to in its leaks as the Mate V (most often) or the Flip (on occasion). Now, the latest tip connected to the device might confirm its looks and some of its functionality prior to its launch.
This new leak, posted to Ice Universe on Weibo, consists of shots for a "Mate V case". Should it prove accurate, the accessory in question is made of 2 parts, each of which should clip onto each half of a clamshell-style phone's rear panel, much like those made by Samsung for the original Z Flip.
However, this one shows something no Z Flip has ever had: 2 large circular cut-outs taken out of the 'top' half of its whole. They may thus be intended to conform to the Mate V's 'double-barrel' camera layout - except that one of these circles is rumored to house the device's secondary display.
The small round screen could have a number of uses, a folded-mode clock included. Then again, not much else is known about the "Mate V", not even the approximate size of its main display. Huawei fans might have to wait until after the Mate 50's launch in 2022 to find out for sure.
