Reviews for the HTC 10 Evo

The HTC 10 evo isn’t awful, and the earbuds are effective, but at $710 it offers poor value for money. If that’s your budget, buy the similarly priced OnePlus 3T instead – or alternatively, find a good deal on the HTC 10.

We spent just over a week writing this review and in that time, the price of the HTC 10 evo fell from around €500 to €450. That's more palatable, but we think it has room to go lower. Then we could conceive recommending this phone - for all its flaws, it does shine on occasion.

In the great scheme of things this isn’t a terrible phone, but there’s no good reason to choose it over others.

Overall, the HTC 10 evo is good device from HTC that I think could have been much better and faster had HTC used a better chipset. It has a beautiful design, highly impressive audio capabilities and a really good but slow camera. But in the price range for AED 1800, there are devices that offer better bang for your money.

The big question mark right now is price. In the US, where the Evo is known as the HTC Bolt, you can only get one on Sprint and it'll set you back US$600, which pushes it out of contention. We'll have to pay £420 here in the UK, which is better, but still more than the OnePlus 3T.

The Evo is a phone that does most things ok, but fails to excite and makes bizarre choice along the way. There are better options out there'

Although HTC hasn't confirmed the price yet, it says the 10 Evo will be the best in its class - of £450 to £500 phones. However, that conveniently ignores cheaper phones such as the OnePlus 3 which has a faster processor, more RAM and more storage, and it certainly makes the newcomer appear overpriced even considering its IP57 rating and its clever headphones. However, we'll update this with a definitive conclusion once we've spent more time with the phone.

The HTC 10 Evo presents a strange combination of specs. On the one side there's stellar audio performance, hampered by the lack of a conventional 3.5mm headphone socket, there's great performance, but with and older chipset that does still seem to get a little warm.

This phone is an absolute cracker. Apart from the slight off-note with the older processor, its specs check out and that gorgeous unimetal body is absolutely stunning.

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

73%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
