Reviews for the HTC U23 pro
HTC has been quiet, but now the HTC U23 pro is launched. With the new model HTC wants to make an impression in the upper mid-range. It brings the status LED, microSD card, and audio jack from the past.

The HTC U23 Pro is a very competent mid-range smartphone. It gets a lot of things right, from the large, high-refresh rate display, to the stock software and high level of performance. But this smartphone is far from perfect, we think the design could be a little more exciting, and crucially, the camera needs to be much better. With that in mind, we don’t think the HTC U23 Pro is a bad option per se, you could buy it and be very happy with it, but there is an awful lot of competition at this price range (around $500/£500). For example, the same money will get you a Samsung Galaxy A54 or Google Pixel 7a, which are much more rounded smartphone experiences.

Unless you’re after serious gaming power and lightning-fast charge times, the HTC U23 Pro represents seriously good value for money from a reputable brand. It’s speedy, it’s silky smooth, the camera system won’t let you down, and its OLED screen is wonderful to gaze upon for hours. But with a chip that can technically be bested by other mid-range handsets at the same price like the Poco F5, it’s a case of deciding whether you want a great general-use handset or a phone that trades its photography potential for raw power. It’s just not much of a fashion accessory.

As mentioned multiple times, the U23 Pro is not a cheap device. While technically, it happens to be the HTC's headliner, that is simply due to the lack of better hardware in the company's roster. In objective terms, it cannot rub shoulders with competing flagship offers. In fact, most of the U23 Pro's competitors out there are noticeably cheaper. It's just not a great value proposition. You can get better hardware out there for less. That being said, prices change constantly, and it is always a good idea to try and evaluate a phone as a product regardless of pricing. There are certain aspects of the HTC U23 Pro we found quite enjoyable. Its design is nice and classy. The inclusion of Gorilla Glass Victus and an IP67 ingress protection rating are both highly appreciated and stand out in the midrange.

The HTC U23 Pro is a competent mid-ranger with clean software, wireless charging, and IP67 certification. When it comes to the broad strokes stuff, however, it has very little to recommend it above its key rivals, which are variously cheaper, faster, better at taking pictures, and have better displays.

Unboxing the HTC U23 Pro, a mid-range smartphone boasting a 108MP camera, stock Android vibe and some killer features. The HTC U23 Pro serves up a headphone jack, expandable storage and wireless charging - but the Pixel 7a and Samsung Galaxy A54 5G might be better options still. If your phone's optics are a priority, you'll certainly prefer the Google and Sammy alternatives. The U23 Pro's camera is fine for outdoor shots but I find my indoor pics tend to look drab, with dull tones - while the focus occasionally fails.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

72.73%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
