HP, much like every other OEM out there, has refreshed its laptops with Intel's newest Alder Lake processors at CES 2022. The business-centric HP ProBook 440 G9 and ProBook 450 G9 get a taste of the latest silicon, along with a few other QoL upgrades here and there. HP claims that one can easily replace the SSD, RAM, battery and Wi-Fi module by removing just one flap. Both laptops are MIL-STD 810H16 certified, meaning that they can endure some daily wear and tear. The HP ProBook 440 G9 and ProBook 450 G9 will go on sale in March, and HP will tell us their prices as the release date approaches.
HP hasn't specified the exact CPU models of the ProBook 440 G9 and ProBook 450 G9, and it is probably some enterprise-centric processor that Intel will unveil at its Alder Lake mobile event at CES 2022. One can, however, opt for an Nvidia GeForce MX550 graphics card (2GB VRAM) instead of the iGPU. Both models can be configured with 32GB of 3,200MT/s RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD.
The HP ProBook 440 G9 and ProBook 450 G9 ship with 14-inch and 15.3-inch screens, respectively. HP offers several customization options for the screens, including a 16:9 HD (1,280 x 720) 200 nits TN panel , FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 250 nits IPS panel (touch functionality optional), and FHD 400 nits IPS panel. The ProBook 440 G9 adds an extra variant with 1000 nits brightness, an anti-glare coat, HP SureView Reflect and HP Eye Ease. One can physically cover the 720p with the included privacy shutter. Windows Hello functionality can be enabled via an optional IR camera.
The smaller HP ProBook 440 G9 draws power from a 43Wh battery, while the larger ProBook 450 G9 uses a 51Wh unit. HP claims that one can charge the batteries to 50% in 30 minutes via the included barrel-pin charger or USB Type-C port, of which there is only one. You do, however, get three USB Type-A ports (one of which is always powered on), one HDMI 2.1 port, one RJ45 Ethernet jack and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. There's an optional nano-SIM card slot for those who want LTE connectivity. Both models support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. However, some of the lower-specced variants max out at Wi-Fi 6.
