Haswell update. The combination of a high-performance Core i7 quad-core processor, matte screen, and Windows 7/8 Professional already indicates that the ProBook 450 G1 wants to be a work machine. HP aims at both professional and private users at the same time. However, the company demands just under 800 Euros (~$1099) for the laptop. Our test report reveals whether the device is worth the money.

With stamina. The ProBook 450 G2 attracts buyers with its low heating, low system noise, good input devices, and long battery runtimes. The display is a major weakness. In addition, HP charges a steep price for the computer.

The HP ProBook 450 G2 is a sturdy business laptop with reasonable performance and a good keyboard, which is about as much as you can ask from a cheap business laptop. If your needs are modest, this is a great buy. Otherwise, spend £100 more and you could buy the Chillblast Akira, which has a dedicated graphics card and a Full HD screen.

HP ProBook 450 G2-L3Q26EA
Formal and sleek-looking; the HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook certainly highlights the ProBook name. The entire chassis comes in dark grey with the interior finished in brush metal. The top cover has a matte look with only the HP logo standing out in gloss. Fluid lines and curved edges are certainly echoed all around the notebook's silhouette, the full sized tile keyboard comes in dark grey and the low profile look is maintained. Like any professional notebook, the HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook comes in various customizable specifications. At the top end of the spectrum there is a 15.6 inch FHD anti-glare LED-backlit screen, an Intel Core i7-5500U clocked at 2.4 GHz with Intel HD Graphics 5500, up to 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM, an AMD Radeon R5 M255 GPU with either 1 GB or 2 GB dedicated VRAM. Users can also select from a vast range of storage options ranging from 200 GB hard drives to 120 GB M.2 SSDs. Other features include an optional Blu-ray optical drive, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI out, a VGA port and a 720p HD webcam. Audio quality is good with DTS Sound+ driving the integrated stereo speakers. The HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook can be powered by either a 4-cell, 44 Wh Li-Ion battery or a 4-cell, 40 Wh Long Life Li-Ion pack.Specifications

Office all-rounder. The ProBook 450 G3's assets are found in low temperature development, quiet operating noise, decent input devices, and a good battery life. However, the matte, Full HD screen is a shortcoming. The total bundle is throughout affordable at a price of approximately 640 Euros (~$701). A Windows operating system is not preloaded.

Quite frankly, we weren’t surprised by the ProBook at all since the review of the 14-inch model. Our opinion of the product remains unchanged and it’s mostly positive. We are happy with the build quality, the good choice of materials and overall design. All of this make up for a reliable, sturdy and elegant product which is rarely found in this price range. The chassis also holds four USB ports on top of all other standard connectivity options and, of course, doesn’t lack the much needed good typing experience offering excellent keyboard and touchpad usability.

Unworthy screen. HP is one of the first manufacturers to use Kaby Lake in its 400 ProBook lineup in the business sector. Why the 15.6-inch model is not convincing despite its many positive traits can be read in our in-depth report.

The new HP ProBook 450 G4 delivered even more than we expected. It brings a slightly altered design, which isn’t prone to smudges and fingerprints anymore, but retains the good choice of materials and feel. Maybe it’s not a big improvement compared to the previous version but it’s definitely not a step back either. If anything, there’s a small decline in weight and size over the ProBook 450 G3. Moreover, the ProBook 450 G4 introduces the already excellent keyboard from the last generation while revamping the touchpad, which offered nothing less than good experience. It’s nowhere near the Pavilion 15’s stiff and almost unusable touchpad.

HP: The Hewlett-Packard Company, founded 1935, commonly referred to as HP, is a technology corporation headquartered in California, United States. HP specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, storage, and networking hardware, software and services. Major product lines include personal computing devices, enterprise servers, related storage devices, as well as a diverse range of printers and other imaging products. Other product lines, including electronic test equipment and systems, medical electronic equipment, solid state components and instrumentation for chemical analysis. HP posted US $91.7 billion in annual revenue in 2006, making it the world's largest technology vendor in terms of sales. In 2007 the revenue was $104 billion, making HP the first IT company in history to report revenues exceeding $100 billion.
Up to 2015, the company was named Hewlett Packard Company. After a split, the computer range was renamed to HP Inc.
In the laptop segment, HP was the world's largest manufacturer from 2014 to 2016 with a market share of 20-21% from 2014 to 2016, but they only exceed Lenovo by a small margin as of recently. HP is not present in the smartphone sector (as of 2016).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 8750M: Mid-range graphics card based on the GCN architecture.
Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).
NVIDIA GeForce 930MX: Lower mid-range graphics card for laptops based on the GM108 chip. The 930MX is a refresh to the 930M and now also supports GDDR5 graphics memory.
Intel HD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2) found on some Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series).
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 4600:
Integrated processor graphics card found on a number of Haswell CPU models. Offers varying clock speeds depending on the CPU.
Intel HD Graphics 5500: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in the Core processors of the Broadwell U-series (15 W TDP).

Intel Core i5:
3230M: Fast Ivy-Bridge-based dual-core, includes HD 4000 GPU, core clock 2.6 - 3.2 GHz
4200M: Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.1 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
5200U: Broadwell-based ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5500 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4702MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.2 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
5500U: Broadwell-based ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5500 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Kaby Lake:
i7-7500U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.7 to 3.5 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.
i5-7200U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.5 to 3.1 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
1.95 kg:
This weight is typical for very old and big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal; nowadays, rather typical for 15 inch laptops.
2.37 kg:
Usually, old laptops with 14-16 inch display-diagonal weigh as much.
78%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
