Google to reportedly offer free 6-month and 1-year Gemini Advanced subscriptions with the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro series
Google is reportedly planning to offer complimentary one-year and six-month subscriptions to Gemini Advanced for upcoming Pixel 9 series users. This reveal comes courtesy of @AssembleDebug on X (formerly Twitter) and TheSpAndroid, who uncovered the following strings during APK teardown of the Google app version 15.28.37.29.
<string name="assistant_zero_state_google_one_p9_eft_upsell_body">Your Pixel Pro gives you access to a 1-year subscription to Gemini Advanced, our most capable AI model with priority access to new features, at no cost to you.</string>
The strings specifically mention a "Pixel Pro" device and a one-year Gemini Advanced subscription, suggesting that this benefit might be exclusive to the higher-end models. We say models because the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pro XL will likely get the same bundled benefit. However, additional strings (see below) referencing a six-month subscription and the standard "Pixel" device imply that the base model of the Pixel 9 series could also receive a shorter 6-month Gemini Advanced subscription.
<string name="assistant_zero_state_google_one_p9_short_eft_upsell_body">Your Pixel may give you access to a 6-month subscription to Gemini Advanced, our most capable AI model with priority access to new features, at no cost to you.</string>
While these findings are based on early code analysis, they indicate that Google is trying to make the Pixel 9 series an attractive deal for customers. A $240 yearly Gemini Advanced subscription for free is pretty neat, considering Google is consistently bringing new updates to its AI (and will hopefully keep at it). Interested consumers won't have to wait too long now, as Google has confirmed an August 13 launch for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The colors, pricing, and memory variants of all these four models were leaked recently as well. Apart from these smartphones, the Pixel Watch 3 Series is also expected to launch alongside.
