Google app beta APK teardown reveals new extensions coming to Gemini AI assistant
Google's AI assistant, Gemini, is set to become even more capable, if the APK teardown of the latest update (v15.29.34.29 beta) is to be considered. The tech behemoth's new AI assistant could reportedly get several new extensions. These extensions will allow Gemini to interact with various Google services and devices, adding a lot more functionality and options than before.
The APK teardown of the latest Google app beta has revealed details about six upcoming extensions, including three unannounced ones. One of the most likely additions is the Google Home extension, which will enable Gemini to directly control smart home devices, bypassing the need for Google Assistant altogether. This makes sense considering Google is already asking its Android users if they want to switch to Gemini or stick with Google Assistant.
Another big development could be the Phone extension, allowing users to make calls and potentially perform other phone-related tasks using voice commands. Additionally, a new Utilities extension will provide Gemini with the ability to interact with settings and apps. Users can take photos, open apps, and adjust the volume using Gemini - things you can currently do with the Google Assistant.
While Google has previously announced extensions for Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks, details about their integration with Gemini remain unclear. What's clear is that Google is trying its best to adopt Gemini extensively across all its devices. Could this mean that Google Assistant may be entirely phased out in the future? There are no indications as of now, but this wouldn't be surprising at all.
