Google is launching Vids, an AI-powered video creation tool, within Workspace Labs

Google Vids is an AI-powered video creation tool that was first announced in April 2024. Vids utilizes Google's Gemini AI to streamline video production. It offers features like AI-generated storyboards, customizable templates, voiceover creation, and collaboration tools - basically letting professionals focus on content while AI handles technical aspects of video creation, saving a lot of time.

There are a lot of high-quality templates to kickstart the creative process, Google says. Users can utilize Gemini AI to expedite the initial stages of video creation. Google Vids claims to have a fairly big royalty-free stock content library and a built-in recording studio, so that users can bring their ideas to life in no time, and that too without leaving the Workspace ecosystem. It's pretty neat, considering Google Vids will also let you turn your presentation slides into a video and edit the text or music for each section if you want.

Mind you, Google Vids is nowhere as powerful or capable as OpenAI's Sora, but other basic AI video generators like Clip Creator and Pictory might want to watch out. The integration of Vids into Google Workspace might be too appealing of an option for some users, since it will streamline workflows and will probably be bundled with pre-existing Workspace subscription plans. However, bugs will likely be abundant in early updates. It's important to remember that Vids is still in its early stages, and this release allows Google to iron out any kinks before a wider rollout.
