Google’s Stadia has been around for several months now, and the reception of the cloud gaming platform has been fairly mixed. That may change now; Google has slashed the price of the Stadia Premiere Edition package from $130 to $99.99. However, there’s a small catch.
The Premiere Edition, which includes a Stadia controller and a Chromecast Ultra, originally included 3 months of Google’s Stadia Pro service for free. In addition to cutting the price by $30, Google has also cut that free 3 month trial period. While the Stadia Premiere Edition can now be purchased for $100, users will have to pay for the Stadia Pro service out of their own pockets.
However, Google does offer a free version of Stadia. It also still offers a separate one-month free trial of Stadia Pro, so cloud gamers can still try it before they buy it.
Currently, the Stadia Premiere Edition is the only way to experience Stadia on a TV (without connecting a phone via a cable adapter). Google might find better luck with the lower price tag, particularly with those that don’t care for the feature set included with Stadia Pro.
