Bored at home during a lock-down? Google may have a new solution. The Mountain View giant now offers 2 months' worth of paid access to its Stadia cloud-gaming platform for free. It applies to new users and to existing subscribers. However, it is only available in a limited number of countries.

The subscription-based arm of Google's cloud-gaming service offers access to some titles that may need to be paid for in the free version of this platform. However, its maker has now decided that, as the demand for at-home entertainment has skyrocketed due to Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and quarantine requirements, more users need the complete Stadia experience in their lives.

Accordingly, access to Stadia Pro is free to those who sign up for the first time for 2 months thereafter. However, this would hardly be fair on the existing subscriber base: therefore, they will not be charged for the same length of time. Once the trial period elapses, there is a monthly fee of US$9.99 a month (or the regional equivalent), although this can be cancelled at any time.

Unfortunately, this opportunity is not available to all Google account holders worldwide. It only applies to those in the US, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the UK and Republic of Ireland.

These users will also be able to play in 1080p, and not the normal top Stadia Pro resolution of 4K, as Google balances the potential user influx with the streaming resources available to it. The free Stadia Pro offer takes effect from today (April 8, 2020) and may only be available for 48 hours thereafter.
