There have been rumours about Google rolling out a new kind of digital assistant to Pixel devices for years. To recap, initial details about 'Pixie' emerged in late December 2023. A few months later, Pixie was rumoured to be launching on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro (curr. $1,099 on Amazon), which never came to pass.
Android Authority has now shed new light on Pixie and its whereabouts. According to the website, Pixie remains in development. However, it has since been re-branded as Pixel Sense, which Google plans to distribute as a dedicated app.
Reportedly, Google is targeting the release of the Pixel 10 series for the rollout of the Pixel Sense app. The new assistant is said to build on Google's past assistant services in various areas. For example, Pixel Sense is reputed to have access to almost every first-party Google app going, including Chrome, Gmail, Photos and YouTube.
In other words, Google hopes to use even more data to improve personalisation. Allegedly, the Pixel Sense app will also analyse how one uses their Pixel smartphone before recommending frequently actioned apps or services ahead of schedule. The look and feel of the Pixel Sense app remains unknown for now though, as does whether it will be available on current and older Pixel smartphones.
