The performance-oriented laptop features a Core i7-7700HQ CPU and an NVIDIA GTX 1070, as well as options for a 4K screen, up to 4 storage drives, and a per-key RGB-backlit keyboard.

Gigabyte has been very active at COMPUTEX this year, rolling out several updates to their existing notebooks and introducing new models that will come to retail in the next few months. One of their newest models is the P56XT.

The P56XT looks like a very capable high-tiered gaming notebook. The specs are as follows:

One of the defining features of the laptop is its swappable Optical Disk Drive bay. This bay can be occupied by a DVD-RW drive, a Blu-ray drive, or a traditional 2.5” SATA hard drive. While the product specification page on Gigabyte’s website lists this bay as hot-swappable, meaning the ODD can be swapped with an HDD without powering the system down, their other product literature makes no mention of hot-swap capability. We’ll have to wait until we can get our hands on the notebook to determine this functionality.

The keyboard will also feature the Aorus Fusion RGB backlighting engine, which allows for per-key RGB backlighting with support for multiple light animations. This should allow for some major customizability. The P56XT also has an option for a 4K IPS display. This gives the 15.6-inch panel a dense 282 pixels per inch.

All this is wrapped in a matte black plastic chassis with a bright orange trim on the right and left of the keyboard deck. Keeping everything cool is Gigabyte’s patented Supra-Cool cooling system, which also allows users to customize the fan speeds via software.

No word on pricing yet, but Gigabyte’s notebooks are typically modestly priced compared to its rivals, even at the high end. The P56XT is expected to hit retailers at the end of June.
