The Genmitsu Cubiko is a CNC system aimed at making a technology originally intended for professional applications accessible to consumers. Marketed as compact and affordable, the system is still open for early preorders as part of a crowdfunding campaign, with prices starting at $299. As always, potential backers should be aware of the significant financial risks associated with supporting crowdfunding campaigns. Additionally, even if the product does ship, there is no guarantee that the device will actually deliver the promised features in adequate quality.
Measuring 300 x 335 x 318 mm (11.8 x 13.2 x 12.5 in), the Cubiko can process workpieces of up to 150 x 110 x 40 mm (5.9 x 4.3 x 1.6 in) using a range of tools. Users essentially have a choice between rotating tools and a laser module. The 5.5-watt diode laser can be used for engraving, whereas a rotating tool lets users mill wood and metal. The other two modules are more suitable for finishing rather than thorough work: The drawing module supports pens with a diameter ranging from 3 to 18 mm, whilst the polishing module, set to release later, can help restore scratched materials.
According to official specs, the Cubiko boasts a machine power of 120 watts and a spindle wattage of 75 watts, capable of achieving a max spindle speed of 10,000 RPM. Besides offering a precision of 0.1 mm, the system is also enclosed, which helps prevent injury and keep operational noise levels at about 60 dB. The machine can be effortlessly controlled using an app and is also compatible with various programs. The company aims to start shipping the Genmitsu Cubiko by May 2025.
