GALAX outs the GeForce RTX 3060 Metaltop Mini FG, a single-fan RTX 3060 for small form factor desktops
GALAX recently announced the launch of the custom GALAX GeForce RTX 3060 Metaltop Mini FG, a single-fan RTX 3060 that's designed to fit in Mini-ITX SFF cases. The RTX 3060 Metaltop Mini runs at stock clocks, with the RTX 3060's stock TDP of 170W.
GALAX made the announcement on the Chinese BiliBili platform. As of now, it's not clear whether or not the Metaltop Mini will make its way to western markets. The RTX 3060 Metaltop Mini features an LHR (low hashrate) GPU, making it a less desirable pick for cryptocurrency miners (and hopefully ensuring better availability for gamers).
Ampere cards in general tend to be power-hungry. AIB models of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, for instance can draw 400W or more. The GeForce RTX 3060 is the only desktop Ampere card on the market with a TDP below 200W, the only one it'd make sense to build a single-fan card around.
The GALAX GeForce RTX 3060 Metaltop Mini FG joins the PNY GeForce RTX 3060 12GB XLR8 Gaming REVEL EPIC-X and the Colorful GeForce RTX iGame Mini as the only single-fan Ampere cards on the market. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact their cooling design has on performance, vis-a-vis standard RTX 3060 models.
