Despite ramping up production to over 15,000 cameras per month, Fujifilm has confirmed that it will be months before it completely catches up on the overwhelming pre-orders for the X100VI.

The Fujifilm X100V's popularity and resulting shortages have become the stuff of legend, and the same pattern seems to be repeating itself when it comes to the newly-announced Fujifilm X100VI.

The Fujifilm X100VI features a number of updates and refinements over its predecessor, which the company rightly assumed would make the camera even more desirable than the previous fixed-lens compact camera. In fact, in a recent statement to PetaPixel, Fujifilm confirmed that it anticipated demand for the X100VI to be "twice as high" as the X100V, and had planned its production capabilities accordingly.

Fujifilm famously moved the X100VI's production to China to deal with the increased demand, but it appears as though that isn't going to be enough. According to the camera maker:

We are working to accelerate production to meet the additional demand, however, it will take a few months before we can start to fill back-orders. We appreciate our community’s support and patience regarding this matter.

There were early signs that this would be the case. As we reported shortly after the X100VI's launch event, several UK-based Fujifilm dealerships indicated that pre-orders for the X100VI were higher than they had ever seen, also predicting that the supply chain would not going to be able to cope with the increased levels of demand.

So, while some of those who pre-ordered the X100VI received their orders early, it appears as though that enthusiasm will be short-lived as demand starts to overwhelm the existing supply.

If you're after the retro looks but don't want to risk paying the X100VI tax, check out the Fujifilm X-S20 (curr. $1,299 on Amazon) or the Nikon Zf full-frame camera (curr. $1,996.95 on Amazon).
