If Forza Horizon 6 feels a little too clean and restrained, Wreckfest offers the opposite experience. The spiritual successor to the FlatOut series is currently 90% off on Steam for the first time.

Forza Horizon 6 may not be a simulation, but deliberately ramming other players is still generally frowned upon. In Wreckfest, by contrast, crumpled metal, heavy impacts and spectacular crashes are part of the appeal. Released in 2018, the racer was developed by the creators of FlatOut, a series known for destructive crashes and uncompromising arcade racing. Wreckfest follows in that tradition, but adds a more realistic physics model. According to SteamDB, the game has never been this cheap on Steam before. It is currently 90% off, bringing the price down to around $3 instead of $30. Thanks to its "Verified" Steam Deck rating, the deal should also be interesting for handheld players.

Wreckfest offers more than classic circuit racing. The game also includes demolition derbies and chaotic special events. Instead of exotic supercars, players drive rusty sedans, old muscle cars and battered compact cars. Vehicle customization plays an important role: reinforcing a car with a roll cage, side protection and heavy bumpers improves durability but makes it less agile. A lighter build is faster, but can quickly fall apart after a heavy collision. The realistic physics are not limited to handling. Body panels crumple, bend and tear apart convincingly, while the AI drivers are tuned for especially aggressive racing. That keeps collisions frequent and gives each race a deliberately rough edge.

German gaming magazine GameStar awarded Wreckfest 80 out of 100 points. The reviewers praised the grounded driving model and realistic damage system, especially in multiplayer, but found the campaign and presentation rather uninspired. Even so, anyone looking for a more aggressive alternative to Forza Horizon 6 should find plenty to enjoy here. The Steam community’s verdict is also positive: Around 88% of nearly 40,000 user reviews recommend the game. On Metacritic, Wreckfest has a Metascore of 81 and a User Score of 7.5.
