Microsoft's critically-acclaimed racing title Forza Horizon 5 has just gotten a major update. The November 8 Donut Media series patch brings Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution and AMD FSR 2.2 support and is currently rolling out to Forza Horizon 5 players via the Microsoft Store and Steam.
According to developers Playground Games, the new update also adds two new ray tracing modes on the PC — Ultra and Extreme. Previously, ray tracing was only available in the ForzaVista mode but now players can experience car reflections in free roam, photo mode, and races as well. However, the ray tracing effects can vary in terms of resolution and the cars to which they are applied. More information can be found in the table below.
Though this is the official implementation of ray tracing for races in Forza Horizon 5, an enterprising modder had long ago showcased the possibility of ray traced cars in races thanks to a Cheat Engine tweak.
AMD FSR 2.2 can render a 4K upsampled image from a 1080p frame and will work on all PC GPUs including those from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. DLSS also performs 4K upsampling from 1080p data, but this works only on Nvidia RTX cards as does DLAA anti-aliasing. These new settings can be enabled from within the Video options sub-menu.
The developers also note that they don't have any comment on DLSS 3 functionality coming to Forza Horizon 5 at the moment, but DLSS 2.4 should be available for all players running Nvidia RTX GPUs. For an optimal experience while using the Extreme ray tracing preset, the developers recommend running a PC with either an AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT or Intel Core i7-10700K along with a Radeon RX 6800 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU.
