Positioned as a more expensive alternative to the older Focal Bathys, the new Bathys MG are looking to impress with their top-notch sound. Therefore, Focal has incorporated newly developed magnesium drivers with a diameter of 40mm, which is able to reproduce frequencies between 10Hz and 22kHz with a total harmonic distortion of less than 0.2 percent.
The Bathys MG support Bluetooth 5.2 including the SBC, AAC and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codecs. Alternatively, the headphones can be used via an included 3.5mm AUX or USB-C cable. When connected via USB-C, the Focal headphones enable a special DAC mode that can process music up to 24-bit at 192kHz, but the microphones cannot be used in this mode. Meanwhile, the equalizer in the accompanying smartphone app can be used to adjust the sound to personal preferences.
Focal advertises a battery life of up to 30 hours when connected wirelessly via Bluetooth and 35 to 40 hours when wired. Thanks to eight microphones, the noise cancellation and transparency mode are said to be more effective than before. Furthermore, the Focal Bathys MG weigh 12.3 oz and support several convenient features, including Google Fast Pair, Bluetooth Multipoint and the option to automatically pause music playback when the headphones are taken off.
