The brand-new FiiO FX17 are positioned as high-end headphones with a light titanium housing. FiiO packs a total of 13 drivers into each of the two earbuds, led by a 10mm dynamic lithium-magnesium driver. Additionally, there are four Knowles Balanced Armature drivers specifically developed for the FX17, and eight Sonion electrostatic drivers.
In order to make this setup work, FiiO has installed five crossovers, and the mix of different types of drivers is supposed to result in better audio quality. While the electrostatic tweeters can theoretically reproduce frequencies beyond 50kHz with a sensitivity of only 99 dB/mW, they are quieter than dynamic drivers. Since eight of these drivers are found inside these in-ear headphones, their volume is supposed to be higher. The Knowles Balanced Armature drivers are responsible for the mids, while the dynamic driver contributes the bass frequencies.
The FiiO FX17 have a sensitivity of 104 dB/mW at an impedance of 16 ohms. These new earbuds utilize a MMCX cable which can be easily replaced in case of a defect. The included 4ft cable combines gold, silver, and copper, and can be optionally equipped with a 3.5mm, 4.4mm or USB-C plug. The USB-C adapter sports an integrated DAC that supports sound up to 32 bit at 384kHz.
