Epic Games Store fuels skepticism over mystery free games leak with sale promotions

Epic Games Store will soon unveil the second mystery free game for the holiday season of 2025. While the storefront has yet to share any obvious hints, a recently leaked list suggests that the lineup will include Red Dead Redemption 2, which now seems less likely to happen than before.

As MeguminShiro, a credible leaker, spotted, Epic Games Store is promoting its holiday 2025 sale by highlighting the discount that's currently available on Red Dead Redemption 2. This move from the storefront suggests that the game isn't in the planned giveaway list.

Of course, the leaked list under the spotlight was questionable from the very beginning. Its authenticity degraded a bit more when Epic Games Store confirmed that there will be a total of 17 free games throughout the holiday special giveaway event, whereas the list mentions 16.

Another noticeable red flag that the leaked list has is that it claims Mortal Kombat 11 will be offered as a freebie during the holiday 2025 giveaway event. However, the game isn't even listed on Epic Games Store. Of course, this doesn't entirely eliminate the chances of it appearing as a surprise addition later on, but it does make the leaked lineup look increasingly unreliable.

Regardless of what the leaked list is claiming, per recent predictions, the second free game of the event could be Yooka-Replaylee. But then again, the premise of this predicted freebie is mainly the colors of the wrapper, which doesn't hold much ground. After all, it's the same wrapper that Epic Games Store used for the first giveaway of the event, and the color theme doesn't have any similarity to the current free game.
