Emotions are running high against Elon Musk and his company, Tesla. Attackers are not limiting themselves to the company’s facilities as more customers report vandalism, including having their vehicles disfigured by keying. Some aggrieved car owners have asked the automaker to step in, and Musk has proposed a solution.
X user TeslaBoomerMama posted a request for the Tesla to include an alarm in a future software update. The alert will warn criminals that they are being recorded and will be reported to the authorities. Musk responded, saying the car could honk at people.
Tesla cars have had Sentry Mode for years. It uses external cameras to monitor and record potential threats to the vehicle when parked. The footage can be transferred to a USB drive for review. However, this latest feature will probably raise the alarm when the car is approached, potentially dissuading would-be vandals from touching the vehicle.
There have been reports of Tesla owners taking drastic steps to deter troublemakers. Some have replaced the Tesla logo with branding from other car manufacturers. Others have tried to distance themselves from the controversial billionaire industrialist by installing stickers pleading they “bought this car before I knew Elon was crazy.”
