Early reservations about the size and performance of the so-called Cybertruck Gigawiper - its sole 62-inch piece of a giant wiper arm and blade - in adverse weather conditions have proven correct.
Cybertruck owners have been increasingly complaining that the wiper blade leaves a number of streaks on the windshield where it manages to wash off the road salt or dirt in winter conditions, leaving the rest of the windshield smudged and visibility low.
Tesla heard their complaints and chief Cybertruck engineer Wes Morill said that the team in charge of the wiper performance "listened, came up with this, implemented, validated, and deployed it," referring to the OTA update fix that is coming.

"I'm just giving you all visibility," he added after explaining that the 2025.2.8 software update that is rolling out for the Cybertruck will bring continuous "soaking" of the windshield with fluid as long as the driver holds the button for at least two wiping cycles.
Thus, the Cybertruck windshield will be washed with twice more fluid than before, helping to dissolve the road salts or dirt better so that the blade can wipe it clean without just leaving streaks and lowering visibility.
Tesla eschewed slowing down the wiper speed to make the system dispense more fluid, as that would have also covered the windshield with it for longer and lowered visibility at highway speeds.
While people still weren't convinced that holding the wash button for longer to spray twice the fluid amount would work, Wes confirmed that Tesla has tested the solution in the Quebec and Alaskan winters. It worked, so he advised to wait for the Cybertruck's 2025.2.8 software update and try the new wiper mode for themselves before passing judgment.
