Edge 4K OLED: Portable magnetic monitor promises strong colors and comes with a range of ports

The Edge 4K OLED, a portable monitor based on OLED technology, is currently being financed as part of a crowdfunding campaign. It measures 15.6 inches diagonally and is available in either a standard version or with a touchscreen. Users can even choose between models with and without an integrated battery; an integrated battery in such a display might be useful, for example, in avoiding putting too much strain on the smartphone battery. According to the manufacturer, an OLED panel from Samsung is installed, of which the refresh rate is specified as 60 Hz and the maximum brightness as 440 cd/m². The resolution is an impressive 3,840 x 2,160. Although the manufacturer states that the model is suitable for gaming, the low refresh rate is unlikely to satisfy the most demanding gamers. According to the specs, the DCI-P3 color space is fully covered and the weight is estimated at 666 grams.

The device is said to be particularly easy to set up thanks to a magnetic stand and can also hold smartphones magnetically so that they can still be kept in view. Optional wireless data transmission over up to 30 meters is also advertised, although additional devices are required for this. Two USB-C ports, mini-HDMI, speakers and a 3.5 millimeter jack connection are on board. 

Indiegogo supporters can currently obtain a unit for a price starting at $342, 40% off the original price. The manufacturer has successfully carried out crowdfunding campaigns before, however, according to user reports, there were definitely issues. Potential buyers are thus advised to weigh up the risks; in the worst case, there is a risk of losing your entire investment.
