Early stress tests of Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Realme GT 7 Pro reinforce overheating concerns
Realme is among the first manufacturers to ship review units of its new Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphone to reviewers. The company prepared these so early that the review unit boxes mistakenly mention Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which was the anticipated name of the new SoC.
Nonetheless, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Realme GT 7 Pro holds the potential to deliver a noticeable performance jump when compared to the last-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagships. However, according to the early stress tests conducted by Android Authority and Digital Trends, the SoC overheats.
Android Authority notes that the phone can't even finish any of the initial GPU stress tests for heating issues. However, the outlet notes that this issue could be due to Realme's benchmark optimization settings, something that companies do to make their phones score high in synthetic benchmarks.
When the Realme GT 7 Pro was tested with a disguised version of the benchmark app, it completed the test without any issues. Digital Trends faced a similar problem but noted that there was "only a hint of increased heat" when the Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship was used to play Asphalt Legends Unite for 30 minutes.
Besides that, the phone performed well in other tests, hinting that it's only the stress tests where the Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship struggles. But again, as Android Authority has noted, the overheating problem in stress tests is most likely due to Realme's benchmark optimization settings, which can easily be fixed with a software update, and the other phones with the same SoC may not output the same issue.
