GMKtec has been selling the EVO-X2 for a while now with AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU. Available since the end of April, the EVO-X2 was one of the first AMD Strix Halo mini-PCs that one could purchase globally (curr. $1,499.99 on Amazon). However, plenty of rivals are now here are almost upon us, like the Aokzoe Mini PC, HP Z2 Mini G1a and the Geekom A9 Mega.
Coincidentally, GMKtec has now updated its EVO-X2 range in China. Until now, the company has offered its Strix Halo mini-PC in three memory combinations up to 128 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Also, GMKtec sold 96 GB of RAM/2 TB SSD and 64 GB RAM/1 TB SSD variants, albeit all with the same Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU.
Without warning, GMKtec has switched its mid-tier option to 96 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. In the process, it has now positioned the EVO-X2 with 96 GB of RAM for just CNY 1,000 (~$140) more than its 64 GB counterpart. In other words, GMKtec's new SKU retails for CNY 10,999 (~$1,537) in China. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen at this stage whether GMKtec has any plans to drop the price of its 96 GB SKU globally, which currently costs $1,799 with a 2 TB SSD.
