The refreshed SC17 will cost users a pretty penny at about 3300 Euros once it becomes available online. Beyond the GPU update, however, core specifications appear identical:
- 17.3-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) display
- Intel Core i7-6820HK CPU w/ unlocked multiplier
- GeForce GTX 1070 w/ 8 GB GDDR5
- 10 pounds (4.54 kg)
The original SC17 shipped with GTX 980M graphics and was advertised for its flexible BIOS that would allow users to adjust the multiplier, voltages, memory timings, and GPU clock rates. This latest SC17 looks to bring back all these features with 32 GB DDR4-2666 RAM, a 256 GB Samsung NVMe M.2 SSD, and a secondary 7200 RPM 1 TB HDD. The external 240 W power brick remains unchanged.
In our full review of the original SC17, we commended its build quality, performance, and focus on overclockable hardware. Nonetheless, the system itself can feel barebones and lacking in features commonly found on other enthusiast gaming notebooks including Thunderbolt 3, G-Sync support for the internal display, dedicated Macro keys, and a RGB backlight.
