Back in the early 2000s, ECS was as prominent as Asus in the laptop market, but ECS chose to focus more on small form-factor and embedded systems. Now that all major CPU producers are offering AI-powered processors with relatively low power requirements, ECS started refocusing more on the laptop side of its business. At Computex 2025, ECS plans to expand its laptop portfolio with very diverse specs featuring processors from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm.
The new AI-powered ultraportables include three new 14-inch models from the UP42 lineup:
- UP42AR powered by Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra Series 2
- UP42KP powered by AMD’s Krackan Point
- UP42PW powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus
There is also a 15.3-inch UP52PW model powered exclusively by the Snapdragon X Plus chips.
All new models feature an ultra-slim metal chassis with a 16.9 mm (0.66-inch) profile and 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) total weight. Two display options are available: IPS 1080p or 2560 x 1600 panels with 88% narrow bezel.
For now, only the AMD specs are detailed on the official site. ECS does not mention the exact CPU model, only that the maximum core count is 8C/16T with Zen 5 technology. There is support for up to 64 GB DDR5-5600 RAM and a single M.2 SSD slot for up to 1 TB storage space. Other standard features include a 2 MP webcam with dual mic array, up to an RTL8852CE Wi-Fi 6E wireless card plus GbE NIC, Copilot+ compatibility, fingerprint sensor on trackpad, and a choice between 55 or 70 Wh battery packs.
Port selection for the AMD model comes with a USB4 connector, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 2.1 TMDS video out, audio jack and micoSD cards reader. The Intel model is most likely equipped with up to two Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the Snapdragon model probably sticks to USB4.
Pricing info is not yet available, but knowing that ECS is at the moment more popular in the SEA region, prices should be competitive with direct competitors like Lenovo, Asus and MSI.
