Dell Vostro 15-3549
The Dell Vostro 15 is first and foremost a business laptop and is therefore designed to suit the working executive rather than the avid gamer or movie fan. The overall built looks very serious with a black plastic exterior that may look unattractive to some but the outer texture allows users to have a firm grip, making it extremely good for carrying about. The display is about 15.6 inch and features a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, which give about 100 ppi. The HD resolution screen comes with an anti-glare layer so you can work in bright natural light without worrying too much about visibility. Here the processor provided in an Intel Core i5 5200U of the 5th generation with a clock rate of up to 1.5 GHz and 2 MB cache. There is 4 GB of RAM, but this can be expanded up to 8 GB as there are two RAM slots. The internal hard disk has a capacity of 500 GB, spins at 5400 rpm and features 3 GB/s SATA interface. There is an Intel HD Graphics processor. Since this laptop is not targeted at gamers or movie enthusiasts, there is no dedicated graphics card. The OS is one of the surprises here, as it runs on a Linux x Ubuntu system.Specifications

Thanks to the ultra low power Core i5-5200U, processing power for the laptop is not bad at all. General tasks – how the laptop would be used by business users – are no problem at all, while I found the Vostro 3549 could even stretch to some image editing. Nothing heavy, but it could be useful for some customers or businesses. As for games and graphical power, the integrated HD 5500 chip is obviously not going to run The Witcher 3, for instance. Tomb Raider averaged 30.1fps though at low image quality settings, so light gaming is more-or-less OK. If you are looking for a simple laptop which can accomplish everyday tasks at a canter, while handling some light gaming and image editing, this could be it. There are no major drawbacks, and I’d say it is an effective solution at a reasonable price.

Dell Vostro 15-5568
The Vostro series has come a long way as a trusted name for laptops built for professionals and businesses in view. The latest Vostro 15 continues to impress as it is revamped as a slimmer and lighter machine yet without conceding on its substance. Built-wise, the laptop’s construction is solid with a polished finish as it is mainly built with aluminium components. Users have a choice of colours on its interior i.e. gold (Jingle) or silver (Era). Its dimensions measure 19.2 x 380 x 252.5 mm and it weighs merely 1.98 kg. For a laptop in the 15-inch category, it's weight is not all that bad but it could be better. Ports are strategically located on both sides; thus leaving the rear of the laptop neat and clutter-free. Carrying around this laptop is convenient and it will surely turn heads with its polished aluminium finish. Its business look is typical for most Vostro series. Performance-wise, it is powered by an Intel Core i7-7500U Kaby-Lake processor and can be coupled with an NVIDIA M940MX GPU. This interesting combination renders the Vostro in some ways bearing the characteristics of a multimedia laptop. Running demanding software and multi-tasking on this processor is a non-issue. In fact, it will even run games at medium to low settings if needed. Its 15.6-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixel is incredibly appealing. It is nice that the hinge allows the screen to bend back a full 180 degrees. RAM options are 8 GB of DDR4 RAM (max. 32GB) and storage is available at a 256 GB SSD. Network connectivity is supported by Wireless-AC 3165 and Bluetooth 4.1. The sound quality of the Vostro 15 is rather poor due to the speakers which are placed in an odd location. This has been a problem for many Vostros before this too. Connectivity is aplenty on this machine as it comes equipped with all necessary ports for input and output. For maximum security, a fast touch fingerprint scanner is integrated on board. The 42-Wh battery included is equally powerful considering that it is a business notebook and its runtime remains remarkable thanks to its efficient hardware, most noticeably the Kaby-Lake processor. Certainly, professionals and enterprises will benefit from this as they are power users who require longer productivity. The precision touchpad with multi-touch control is wide and sensitive. The keyboard bundled together is spill resistant and illuminated for use under dim environments. It comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro. Living up to the Vostro brand name, this machine is a business notebook standing out among its rivals. Hands-On-Artikel von Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

Elegant business beginner. The Dell Vostro is an inexpensive 15-inch laptop for smaller companies and covers all the essentials. It is also wrapped up in a nicely designed chassis. You will have to make some compromises, but we cannot find any serious issues.

Blue, blue, blue are all my colors. It is not just because of its extreme blue tint that the display is not one of the highlights of the affordable 15-inch office notebook from Dell. Otherwise, the laptop is quite suited for its envisioned use in a small business with its workable input devices, TPM chip, Windows 10 Pro, and an optional SSD.

On the bright side, though, there are the upgradability options, which are quite vast. First, there is a 2.5″ SATA drive slot, that is more frequently excluded, rather than kept (See the Aspire 7 (A715-73G)), as well as an M.2 slot that supports PCIe x4 drives. In terms of the memory, there is only one RAM DIMM, however, depending on the configuration you choose, there are going to be either 4GB or 8GB of DDR4 memory soldered to the motherboard.

The same can be said about the upgradability this thing offers. While many 2020 notebooks have its memory soldered, the Vostro 3590 gives you two RAM SODIMM slots that support up to 16GB of DDR4 memory in total. Add to that a 2.5″ SATA bay and an M.2 slot and you get a future proof device.

As you can see, the entire execution of the Vostro 15 3591 could have been better. Yes, they used an older design that drives the price a lot lower, than it could have been, given the processor choice. Speaking of which, while we are reasonably happy with the performance of the processor and the GeForce MX230, we don’t think that the battery life would make its users happy. Just 6 hours and 20 minutes, when only a single tab of Chrome is opened. That’s not cool. Give it a bit more load and you’ll definitely need a charger probably 4 hours into a working session.

Sadly, we have mixed feelings about this notebook. Even when we take its price under consideration, some corner cuttings, are just too obvious. Speaking of obvious, the most prominent one is definitely the build quality. The plastic used here is on the cheap side, and it doesn’t offer a very good rigidity. And while we like the simplistic design, and the quite decent portability, which is a result of the thin and light chassis, we would prefer higher quality materials.

Interestingly, despite having pretty much the same looks as the Inspiron 15 5501, the Vostro 15 5501 has a worse build quality. While the lid and the base are both aluminum, we found the device to be a bit bendable… literally. Also, the smaller battery results in a shorter autonomous time. Honestly, if you’re mostly going to leave your device in your office (or home) there wouldn’t be any problem. But if you are frequently traveling, putting your notebook in a backpack with other objects – be careful.

If we have to be completely honest, there were a couple of things that were far from impressive about this laptop. First of all, there is battery life. It’s not terrible, but we got a bit more than 7 hours and a half of Web browsing, and almost 6 hours and a half of video playback. Bear in mind that this is the 40Wh unit, so devices equipped with the 53Wh battery will last longer. Hopefully.

Every once in a while Dell happens to produce a decent laptop. The day has come for the night watch to change the guard. After evaluation of every single aspect of the device, we believe that it can deliver what is expected from it. We were especially happy to see that you can upgrade both the RAM and the storage, with the former playing a key role in performance. Be sure to combine two identical sticks of RAM to increase the potential of your integrated graphics. In our case, the unit came with only one stick of memory, which is reflected in the GPU scores.
