Dell Chromebook 11

Chromebooks, which are notebooks using the Chrome OS with cloud data storage, are gaining a foothold among fans. Dell has realized this, and offers Chrome OS fans an option in the form of the Dell Chromebook 11. As its name implies, it is a simple and fuss-free device that features an 11.6 inch display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. The display is sufficient for everyday needs of the layman but will not be enough for those with higher graphic demands such as gamers liking graphic heavy games or designers and photographers who need high resolution graphics for correctly viewing their pictures. The overall design is practical and elegant, covered in stiff black plastic. The Chromebook 11 is driven by an Haswell technology based 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron 2955U processor with integrated Intel HD GPU. The internal storage drive is 16 GB and there are two different RAM options to choose from, 4 GB and 2 GB. A high density battery is supposed to provide up to 10 hours of power. Despite its very basic sounding feature, it does offer easy to use options and comes with a pile of useful Google Apps. This is therefore the ideal teaching laptop which can potentially make learning easier for budget constrained students and others that need a simple gadget for less.

80% Product Review – The Dell Chromebook 11

For a device in the price range of £237 to £327, the Dell Chromebook 11 is great value with its sleek and durable design, snappy performance and impressive audio, and nice variety of productivity apps. Plus, Dell has managed to raise the bar for Chromebook while still maintaining affordability and functionality in a device that does not appear as though it was manufactured on a budget.

At the end of the day, the Dell Chromebook 11 i3 is an excellent choice for students as well as shoppers looking for a long-lasting, inexpensive laptop. It can handle as many apps as you can throw at it thanks to its Core i3 processor and 4GB of RAM, and the battery lasts all day with juice to spare. The keyboard is also one of the best we've used on any laptop, let alone a Chromebook.

The Dell Chromebook 11 (Intel Core i3) is definitely a step up from the previous Dell Chromebook 11, thanks to the switch to an Intel Core i3 processor, but the improved performance is comes with an uptick in cost. In a category where competing systems frequently sell for under $300, the Dell Chromebook 11 (Intel Core i3) comes at a pretty steep price. And while the more powerful processor does offer smoother, faster performance, the extra power will actually be overkill for most Chrome users.

Dell’s Chromebook 11 with a Core i3 processor is one of the fastest Chrome OS laptops I’ve tested… but I’d probably only recommend spending $379 if you’re really certain you need the extra RAM and speed that comes with this model. You can easily save $100 or more by grabbing a Celeron Chromebook with 2GB of RAM.

The challenge going forward with Chromebooks will be how to make them more powerful without driving up their affordable prices. At $379, the new Dell Chromebook 11 is $30 more than the Acer Chromebook C720 with the same CPU but the Dell offers much longer battery life. I do wish the screen on the Chromebook 11 looked less washed out, though.

Dell’s debut offering is pretty much exactly what most people want from a Chromebook. It’s fast, easily portable, smart looking, features a great keyboard, and even manages to add in a few bells and whistles like the two USB 3.0 ports. If Google’s vision for a laptop fits your needs, then the Chromebook 11 will make you very happy.

Dell's Chromebook 11 shows its purpose in its design by being a bit heavier and sturdier than many on the market because it is intended for use in schools. For the most part, this helps the system as it is more resistant to constant use. The better battery life is certainly appreciated but it does have a little bit of a drawback because the screen is much more reflective than most Chromebooks.

Source: Zdnet.com English Archive.org version
Dell's Chromebook 11 offers sturdy but stylish design, reasonable performance and good battery life. Screen quality is the only significant drawback, unless you must have an Ethernet port. If you're comfortable living entirely online in the browser, it's an excellent option — especially at $179 or £199 (ex. VAT). If you're looking for more in the way of traditional desktop processing power (for photo editing and other demanding workloads for example), you'll need a notebook running Windows or Mac OS X. But even these users could consider a Chromebook as a lightweight secondary device at this price.

Now that the HP Chromebook 11 is back on sale, however, it’s that model that remains our favourite Chromebook. Although it can’t compete with this Dell on performance or battery life, its display is vastly superior, and that makes a real difference. Despite being a product for students, this, and other Chromebooks, remain excellent productivity machines and are well worth a close look.

Dell Chromebook 11 Review: Is It $100 Better than Acer C720?
Source: Notebooks.com English Archive.org version
If someone can get their hands on the Dell Chromebook 11, they should test it out before buying a Chromebook. Parents and schools should buy. All others should consider the Acer for the lowest price or the HP Chromebook 11 or Samsung Chromebook 2 for a better screen.

The Dell Chromebook 11 is a good addition to the Chromebook range. Its solid performance, combined with the ever-improving Chrome OS and sturdy build quality, make it a good buy. However, if you're after an 11in Chromebook, you're better off with the cheaper Acer C720 Chromebook, or you could get the 13in Toshiba Chromebook CB30-102 for around £35 more. Also, Intel Core i3-based Chromebooks will soon be available, which are likely to be significantly faster. You may, therefore, wish to wait before you buy a Chromebook.

With its strong performance, creditable ergonomics and low price, the Dell Chromebook 11 is a great option for any student looking for a budget workhorse – especially since, with the integration of the Quickoffice beta into the Chrome OS Files app, offline editing capabilities are now much stronger than before. At this cheaper end of the Chromebook market, we prefer it to the Acer C720. Now that the HP Chromebook 11 is back on sale, though, it’s that model that remains as our favourite Chromebook. The Dell Chromebook 11 is a good, if a bit mixed, device. In some areas it excels with its additional 2 GB of RAM over most other models, the solid trackpad and two USB 3.0 ports instead of just the one USB port found on most Chromebooks. In some areas it suffers, such as the glossy and reflective screen, bad speakers and flimsy keys. For the most part though, it’s simply another option for the Chromebook buyer to consider when looking for just the right device for school or personal use. At $299 it isn’t the most inexpensive option, but for users who really want that extra memory boost, Dell’s offering could be just what they need to improve upon the otherwise lackluster Chrome experience.

The Dell Chromebook 11 is an affordable machine that does not feel or look like it was made on a budget. Compared to its competitors, this Dell falls in line with the specs already set by other Chrome laptops on the market. At the same time, it also has two USB 3.0 ports, matching the same record the Toshiba Chromebook set recently in our review. What sets it apart, though, is its impressive longevity, which makes it perfect for anyone who wants to get away from the outlet with a mobile hotspot in tow.

The overall construction feels solid. The dark-gray plastic chassis should hide smudges and light dings. I'm amused by the name Dell gave this color, though: “Foggy Night?” Given the educational bent, why not "Scarred Blacktop" or "Old Sneaker Sole?" Ah, the missed opportunities. Dell’s Chromebook 11 is a good execution of an inherently limited kind of product. I’d love to see Dell keep at this and take a run at HP’s Chromebook 14. Why should HP have all the fun?

The Dell Chromebook 11 is a very good alternative to a Windows 8 PC, particularly if most of your needs can be satisfied online or with Chrome OS offline programs. It's a good effort, but not quite the best for end users in this price range. For the same price, the HP Chromebook 11 (Verizon LTE) $299.00 at Best Buy, our Editors' Choice, gives users most of the same features as the Dell Chromebook 11, plus a brilliant IPS screen and 4G LTE WWAN (though you have to buy a contract with Verizon), so you're never away from the Internet, even if you're in the middle of a park lawn.

Dell Chromebook 11-3120

The Dell Chromebook 11-3120 is a durable and portable cloud-based laptop. Its full black lid gives it the feel of a laptop from the 1990's, but do not be fooled by the looks as it can certainly do much more than that. Its Intel Celeron N2840 dual core processor is able to clock in at 2.18 GHz (2.58 GHz with Turbo Mode). In addition, the notebook features 4 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. It has an 11.6 inch anti glare, non-touch LCD with HD resolution (1366 x 768), which can be opened to up to 180 degrees. For connectivity, the Chromebook 11-3120 comes with a standard Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC wireless card with WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0; it also has one USB 3.0 port with BC1.2 charging capability and one USB 2.0 port. Besides that, the 3120 also contains an HDMI 1.4 port, an SD card slot, a Kensington lock slot for security purposes and a standard 3.5 mm stereo headphone and microphone jack. It weighs about 1.3 kg (2.91lbs) with most of its weight concentrated on its 3-cell battery which ensures a battery life of a stunning 9 hours. Finally, the Chromebook 11-3120 has a spill-protected keyboard with Chrome OS layout and includes a 2-year warranty.

The Dell Chromebook 11 is aimed at educators and students. Thanks to its durable, rubberized edges and a MIL-STD-810G-tested design, it can withstand the rigors of school. And with over 10 hours of battery life, it will last through the school day (even if you forget to shut it down at recess). However, a dull display and mushy keyboard keep the laptop off the honor roll.

Imagine for a moment that the Chromebook Pixel and one of Dell’s high-end Latitude laptops had a secret liaison – the product of that illicit relationship would surely be the Chromebook 13. Carbon fibre stretches across the lid, the base is armoured in silky-feeling charcoal-grey metal, and every corner rounds to a perfect curve. This is every inch the subtly stylish business laptop; it just so happens to run Chrome OS.

Still, if ChromeOS is what you want, the Dell Chromebook 13 7310 is worth considering. Before you part with your cash, though, I would suggest you just look at the sort of thing you could be getting if you were to buy a Windows laptop. It may be that you are sure you want ChromeOS, which is fair enough. But there are a lot of other options out there than can simply do a lot more for the same money.

80% Dell's new premium Chromebook arrives to take on Google Pixel as best Chromebook
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
This is a confusing machine. On one hand it’s an impressive performer that’s sturdily built and conveys a certain amount of style and professionalism. But we can’t shake the feeling that where the Chromebook Pixel had a few wow factors - the display and industrial design - that almost tempted you to spend £1000, the Dell just seems expensive. That’s unfair in some ways, as you’re getting a fast and durable device that will be up for the rigours of the road, which in the case of most businesses is far more important than how it looks or makes you feel. If a Chromebook is what you want, rather than a premium PC or MacBook, then the figures and the bottom line says the Dell, but our hearts want the Pixel. Maybe that’s why we’re not businessmen.

The Dell Chromebook 13 is a great looking little notebook that, at first glance, is almost indistinguishable from other brands of business class systems. It offers strong performance and is ready for both work and play. However, its weight is noticeable after an extended period of time, and you pick up a competing system such as the HP Chromebook 13, which offers some better features, for roughly the same amount of money.

The Dell Chromebook 13 is affordable quality in the Chromebook space. It’s sturdily built, well-configured, and its performance is competent, while its battery life is outstanding. You wouldn’t buy this for your kids, but for professionals and Chromebook aficionados, it’s currently the strongest buy.

The Dell Chromebook 13 7310 is a very impressive Chrome OS laptop. But unless you’re developing a particularly demanding in-house hybrid cloud app and need the client hardware to run it, you’re better off skipping this particular configuration in favour of one of Dell’s cheaper, better value versions of the 7310.

The Dell Chromebook 13 offers a better build quality and performance compared with most chromebooks. The increased speed is useful if you're a professional running a lot of Chrome apps and services simultaneously, and the price, while higher than most chromebooks, is still less than the Google Chromebook Pixel. The Google Pixel is the superior system, offering extra ports and features with longer battery life, but it's even more expensive, making it less appealing for businesses buying in large numbers for employees.

I recommend the Dell Chromebook 13 because of the price and the simplicity. If you need a second laptop that you use mostly for work on the Web, this one is a good bet. It’s not quite as well-made as the Pixel, but definitely a step up from other Chromebooks.

It's a good time to be in the market for a Chromebook. That's because laptops like Dell's newest model go a long way toward dispelling the notion that Chromebooks are cheap, compromised machines that don't have the hardware or software to cut it as your main computer. Chrome OS will likely always lack some features or applications that Windows or Mac options offer -- but for a lot of people, living life in the browser is becoming more and more viable every day.

Source: Slashgear English Archive.org version
The Chromebook 13 is pricier than some of the other Chromebooks on the market, but it is still toward the lower end of the pricing spectrum when it comes to laptops in general. If Chrome OS is adequate enough for your needs, this particular model sits toward the top of Chromebooks you should consider. The crisp, bright screen, backlit keyboard, carbon fiber lid, and slim design all strike the perfect balance between form and function.

One of the features that users of the Chromebook 11 will miss on the Chromebook 13 is that the keyboard is no longer spill-resistant. This is an odd omission for Dell considering that many enterprise notebooks come with a spill-resistant keyboard. The feature was included on the Chromebook 11 because students are a lot tougher on their devices, said Kirk Schell‎, Vice President and General Manager of Commercial Client Solutions at Dell. Schell expects that enterprise customers will be less harsh on their devices.

60% Dell Chromebook 13 review - a Chromebook Pixel rival?
Source: Expert Reviews English Archive.org version
The Dell Chromebook 13 is undoubtedly a premium Chromebook, but Chrome OS still doesn’t really justify the need for such wanton specifications. In all fairness, this is a complaint which can also be levelled at the Chromebook Pixel as well, but when Google's Chromebook offers so much more for less once you add in VAT, the top-end Chromebook 13 is difficult to recommend.

The Dell comes as close to the ideal Chromebook as anything I’ve tested. The catch is that you’ll pay for it. It’s probably best compared directly to the only Chromebook that’s more powerful and pricier—the Pixel. If you want a high-end Chromebook and don’t mind spending $900 for it, the Dell bests the Pixel in many ways, including battery life.

Unless you simply crave a touch screen, the $799 Dell Chromebook 13 is a formidable rival to the class-leading $999 Google Pixel, and maybe even the $1,299 Core i7 Pixel. One touch of its carbon-fiber lid and you'll be spoiled for ordinary Chromebook construction—even that of excellent contenders like the Toshiba Chromebook 2, which also has a 13.3-inch IPS 1,920x1,080 display and was just refreshed with a choice of Celeron or Core i3 power.

Dell Chromebook 11-3189

The Dell Chromebook 11-3189 is designed and marketed for use in K-12 education environments. It has support for Google for Education administration and features which include a variety of tools that teachers and school/district technology administrators can use to more effectively interact with students, monitor system use, and track learner progress. Google Classroom offers several tools that teachers and learners can use to communicate and work with each other. This Chromebook has been ruggedized to survive typical use by a grade-schooler in whichever of its modes it is bent into. Even if students never stow them in their bags and are just issued these Chromebooks for classroom use, these machines can handle the inevitable classroom drops, bumps, and rough housing, being tested to MIL-STD 810G standards for factors such as shock and vibration resistance. All of the edges, including the rim around the display's perimeter, are covered by a rubber bumper that helps protect the Chromebook 3189 2-in-1 from accidental damage from bumps and minor drops. Its hinge allows to swing the display all the way back, allowing to use the system in laptop, tablet, tent, or stand mode. Under the hood, the Dell Chromebook 11-3189 comes equipped with a very modest 1.6GHz Intel Celeron N3060 dual-core processor with 4GB of memory, plus an 11.6-inch IPS touchscreen with a native resolution of 1,366x768. Local storage is supplied by a 32GB eMMC drive. The local storage is hardly enough. However, Google’s G Suite for Education offers tonnes of cloud-storage space at no additional cost.

As far as 11-inch-class Chromebooks go, the Dell Chromebook 3189 is a bit bulkier and heavier than expected. It measures 0.82 inches thick, with a footprint of 12x8.2 inches, and weighs 3.2 pounds. The good news is that with that extra weight comes some extra rigidity and protection. The outside of the top lid sports a shiny, scratch-resistant covering. The top corners are adorned with a Chrome logo on the left and a small LED stripe at right. The latter is the Dell Activity Light, an alert that students can trigger on the screen to let their teachers know when they’re ready, have questions or need attention. Opposite the display is a full-size keyboard with Chiclet-style keys, with a wide touchpad below it, mounted in the centre. Both the keys and the touchpad are sealed off internally from spills, further helping to protect the system. For connectivity, it has two first-generation USB 3.1 ports with Type-A connectors, a full-size HDMI port, a MicroSD memory-card reader, a combination headset/microphone jack and the port for the 65-watt power adapter. For wireless connectivity, the Chromebook 3189 offers 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support. The Chromebook 11 is probably the perfect laptop for schools and younger students. It offers all the basic features for a very reasonable price.

How good a choice the Dell Chromebook 3189 2-in-1 Education is comes down to what your needs are. While it isn’t the fastest, the lightest, nor the most inexpensive Chromebook you can get, it’s worth looking at if you’re a parent, looking for a Chromebook for your kids to take to school. And if you’re a technology admin/coordinator for a school or district, its sturdiness and its education-friendly features would make it a good choice for a system to hand out to students for in-class or roving use alike.

Dell Chromebook 11 3180 review: When the going gets tough…
Source: Talk Android English Archive.org version
Priced from $239 (£179), the Dell Chromebook 11 offers a durable solution, its spill-resistant keyboard, and rugged design add value to the device and should ensure its ability to survive receiving an education. It doesn’t boast the stylish design and outlandishly high-specs of Google’s Pixel Book, but that’s ok because the 3180 is aimed at students, education facilities, and possibly people like myself who are a little accident prone. With a decent amount of ports including 2 x USB ports, a full-sized HDMI socket, and an audio jack, the only thing missing is an ethernet port, and while I wish it had a better quality display, it’s plenty good enough for what it needs to do.

Dell's standard Chromebook 11 leaves quite a bit to be desired. A low quality display and cheap construction drag down the device. Additionally, the limits of Chrome OS and bugs with Android app compatibility leave a bad taste.

Considering how frequently Dell runs sales on its website, though, the pricing might very well even out when you go to buy, and for many, Dell's durability and extra USB-A port may well be worth the upgrade. Dell also takes the advantage of being the only new-gen Education Chromebook with a $419 64GB model available, which is the one I highly recommend buying given that this Chromebook will receive support until June 2025. Six years is a long time to skate by on 32GB of storage.

The Dell Chromebook 3100 2-in-1 is a low power Chrome OS laptop designed for education. The rugged design is a key selling point that ensures it'll serve even the most accident-prone students, but its low end components mean anything but basic document editing and web browsing is beyond it.

80% Dell Chromebook 11 (3100)
Source: PC Mag English
Some schools and parents swear by the Apple iPad, but Chromebooks have tons of appeal as go-to tech tools for school-age children thanks to significant buy-in from charitable foundations and school districts. Many of them gravitate toward specialized devices like the Dell Chromebook 11 (model 3100; $239 as tested). This inexpensive, rugged, no-frills laptop with an 11.6-inch screen is nearly everything a kids' computer should be. Aside from some Wi-Fi issues we experienced in testing, it's the best Chromebook you can buy for your youngsters without upending your budget.

77.29%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
