Debian-based umbrelOS 1.7.0 lands with home screen shortcuts and new translations

Home cloud solutions are often a smart choice for users who don't have a fast enough connection to the web or just don't trust other parties with their data. In addition to allowing such users to store all their media files on their home cloud, umbrelOS also provides a platform to run OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, and Ollama, as well as a Bitcoin node. Available on the Umbrel Pro home cloud server, umbrelOS also runs on devices like the Raspberry Pi 4, currently available on Amazon for $149.99 in the shape of a 4 GB starter Pro kit.
Based on a Debian core, umbrelOS 1.7 comes with the following highlights:
- Shortcuts to external links and custom ports are available directly from the home screen.
- Advanced network control, including DNS server choosing and setting a static IP for Ethernet connections.
- No less than 17 new languages.
- The ability to set up file sharing directly from the Settings area.
- An all-new text editor that allows users to edit text files, markdown docs, and more directly from Files.
- External drive folder sharing over the network.
In addition to the above, umbrelOS is now snappier overall, with a focus on Files, which opens faster, remembers the last folder, and comes with better keyboard navigation and previews. Those interested in grabbing umbrelOS can download the ISO or IMG installer, as well as Raspberry Pi 4 and Pi 5 images. All downloads can be retrieved from the project's GitHub page, available further down this page.
